Insulators Apprenticeship Program
At our state-of-the-art training center, apprentices take on the challenge of a rigorous four-year state approved apprenticeship program.
The requirements to reach Journeyman status include four years (556 hours) of classroom education as well as a minimum of 6000 hours of
job site training.
These young women and men learn a comprehensive body of technical knowledge about materials, application procedures, regulations and
workplace safety. In addition to attaining technical proficiency, they also build a general knowledge in math, sheet metal layout and
blueprint reading. After completing this program, each apprentice will have been trained in nine different work processes which they will
experience on the job site.
Since safety awareness is paramount to the health of our members and customers, each apprentice is required to complete extensive training
in all facets of the industry. These safety programs include BATC, an industrial safety program designed around the OSHA 500 job site
awareness requirements; CPR and First Aid certification, as well as our monthly safety awareness training.
Local 16 members and affiliated contractors have teamed up to financially support the apprenticeship program, which is administered by the
Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee (JATC), with representatives from Local 16 and the Western Insulation Contractors Association.
Experienced journeymen and journeywomen also return to the training center throughout their careers, to keep their skills up-to-date and
obtain necessary instruction and certifications in the latest techniques and regulations.
